KS3 – Core P.E. (Double lesson)

Students are required to participate in a variety of activities including Football, Basketball, Rounders, Fitness, Cricket, Athletics, Orienteering and Outdoor Education. These activities provide an opportunity for the Students to lead a healthy lifestyle and to develop their skills in a wide range of sports!

Physical Education lessons help the students to form links with activities and create awareness of physical activity in our daily lives. Students are encouraged to participate in games and competitions, during lunch periods and after school, to promote extended learning and to develop their skills further.

Outdoor Education has been introduced to encourage the students to take greater responsibility for their own learning.  The students in year 7 take part in Whitehough Outdoor Education activities.  The challenge of a 4.5 mile walk at Ingleton is undertaken by the Year 8 students.  In year 9 the students visit Towerwood in Lake District where they take part in many exciting problem solving tasks.

Students participate in activities which develop competition in Sport. The physical lessons prepare the student to develop their skills beyond school. The objective of this subject is to provide students with the knowledge and understanding on how to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

Students are given an opportunity to become competent young adults in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. This award helps them to develop their volunteering and leadership skills.

PE GCSE (3 lessons)

Students are given an opportunity to choose PE as an option subject.  In the Edexcel syllabus they will cover the relationship of sport and culture, engage in a range of activities as a participant/official, and develop their own physical activity to maintain healthier lifestyles.

Parents can help students to achieve the best by sending the correct kit/equipment and to encourage them by participating in extra-curricular sports activities.

Our aim is to provide opportunities for the children to learn about healthy active lifestyles which will promote a safe and healthy lifelong participation in physical activities.
